Hey Ethan, awesome to have you feature on our Journal and be part of our In Conversation series! We connected a little while back through Instagram and I’ve really loved all that you’ve put out - you may have even seen me borrow a few pictures from your mood board Every Other Thursday too (laughs).

For those who don’t know you, what do you do? What does ‘work’ look like for you now and in the near future?

(EG)
Thanks for having me be a part of this! I currently work for a small marketing agency here in Toronto but I’m about to make the leap to full time social media work as well as growing my brand Every Other Thursday. So a very exciting but quickly changing time!

(PJS)
You’re from Toronto if I’m not mistaken, about an 18-hour flight from us here in New Zealand (laughs). Were you raised there? and what’s the city like for a business-minded creative like yourself?

(EG)
Haha, yep I was born and raised in Toronto and still live here. It’s a small city in terms of the creative scene, there aren’t a ton of people doing something creative/business minded compared to somewhere like NYC but this means that everyone knows everyone. Which has its pros and cons, but all in all it’s a good collection of creatives across the city.

(PJS)
Tell me about Every Other Thursday. I see you’re selling your own merchandise now too, I love it. How did the name come about? What does the future of EOT look like?

(EG)
So I started Every Other Thursday back in the beginning of the pandemic as a mood board (mood bored as I like to say), and it was just a creative outlet to post things I found cool or inspired by. I did a bit of merch for it in 2020 but it didn’t really take off. Fast forward to this year when I started on TikTok it really exploded. I’ve gone to cut and sew products now instead of blanks and now I can’t keep anything in stock. Which is a great problem to have. As for the name, it was a play off getting paid every other week and I had a job that payday was Thursdays so I thought it fit. The future is a fun thing to think about, it changes so rapidly month to month so I can’t really say definitively, but I would love to drop a small collection a few times a year as well as various one off drops scattered throughout that with pieces like the trucker hat that I wear all the time.

Let’s go a little more into fashion now. How would you describe your style?

(EG)
I would say it’s very minimal, basic, and comfortable. I don’t own any crazy colours or wild patterns, and I draw a lot of inspo for clothes as well as other things from old ads from the 90s and I’d say my style is pretty similar to that. I like to keep a wardrobe where every piece can be worn with any other piece, nothing crazy, just good basic colour theory and cuts and silhouettes that fit my body type.

(PJS)
What does Ethan Glenn’s daily uniform look like right now?

(EG)
Right now cause it’s about to be winter here, I’d have to say it’s a pair of vintage denim, either levis or wranglers, a blank sweatshirt or knit, a beanie, and a pair of high top chucks or some Clarks Wallabees. Oh and a fleece jacket, a staple in my closet.

(PJS)
You can only wear 3 pairs of shoes for the rest of your life, what are they?

(EG)
Clarks Wallabees, high top green chucks, and my ALD penny loafers.

(PJS)
Let’s get a little more personal now. What are some of your daily rituals or habits that keep you sharp, inspired and on top of your game?

(EG)
That’s a great question. To be honest I don’t have many but probably should haha. Some things that I do everyday are: start every day making coffee, a walk or fresh air as much as I can get throughout the day, and I do a lot of searching for old ads to post on EOT but also it is what gives me inspo for outfits, content, and even work projects.

(PJS)
I see you’re often outdoors, in the woods, in nature. Is this an intentional form of relaxation or escapism from the hustle and bustle of the city? What’s your association with the outdoors? Canada is a lot like New Zealand in that respect.

(EG)
Yes always. And as often as possible. Growing up I always was outside, we would go on family vacations to places that were outdoor focused like ski trips or places with great hikes so I think that rubbed off on me as I grew up. Since I grew up downtown, I really cherish the moments where I can escape and get out into nature. When I was in highschool I did a month long canoe trip up north with a dozen other kids and I think since then I’ve just wanted to incorporate that sense of freedom I get with the outdoors into my day to day life as much as possible.

(PJS)
Lastly, what does a life well-designed look like to you?

(EG)
For years my answer would be working for myself on projects that I care about and find interesting. Funny enough I think I’m about to achieve that in the next few weeks which is really special and exciting for me. 2022 is going to be a huge year for us all and I’m very excited to see what it brings!
